Why you should self-publishing

I’ve been through multiple generations of publishing platforms. Over 10 years ago I remember FTP-ing content via Dreamweaver and …

Recently there’s been an explosion of amazing publishing platforms like svbtle and medium for long-form content. So far they don’t have ads, but the end-game of “free” content to end users almost always results in advertising.

But good content doesn’t need this. I host this content on an Amazon S3 bucket, which costs a few dollars per month to host and I know I’ll never be subject to ads, or whatever business model somebody out of my control has access to.

While I won’t be able to ride off the brilliance of Dustin Curtis’s latest design iterations, I will love having the freedom to tweak the layouts in my tools of choice and track changes with the greatest content management system the world has ever seen: git.
